Scenario Discussion Thread
So, am I the only one who didn't jump straight into MP?
I ran through the infantry and water scenarios, intense stuff.
The new character movement tweaks are a godsend.

Agree. I am already in love. Tac Walk is a godsend. Much more fluid. OMFG I am loving the alternate shooting positions.

Sounds good. TDM...so brutal... This game...this game.....it makes me happy in the pants. Just peeked over a ledge and caught some guy in the neck with a 6.5. Went down like a brick, a moment later a bullet thwacks me in the side of the head.. EDGY PLAY!

What does multiplayer look like?
-
03-05-2013, 05:19 PM #6
Looks like a slightly faster Arma II, with more fluidity. It also looks pretty sexy.
I am already seeing some lag issues, not as bad as Arma II. Hoping it's more of a hosting problem. Hoping it gets fixed.

Yeah but what does it look like? I've never played ARMA2 multiplayer.
Is TDM on a smaller area? What's the pace like?
-

Just a set area of the map, right now the "popular" one is a small town. Bout the size of Sharqi's main play area.
Pace can be pretty quick, but you pretty much die from a single gunshot. Stop, go, stop go. Real cautious with some stupid moments.

Only tried the infantry scenario out so far, short but sweet, still haven't figured out the best key mapping yet but i can tell already its a bit better than arma 2's. Animations are great too. Bit laggy no matter what the quality is set to. Like it so far though.

Messed a little bit with arma 2, but call me a beginner but a big fan of the idea of ARMA.
Even though I miss a lot of shots, this is a very well built game. For any beginner this is going to be a time consuming process to get used to the controls, but as you move through the game you will get used to the keyboard mapping. Don't expect to be a god from the start, you have a long, but fun challenge ahead of you.
Played through some scenarios, I found them very difficult, most of the time I am getting used to the controls which is fine, will have a re-run.
For 20 quid I don't think I can complain at all.

The movement system looks excellent.
Now if there was a stealth movement for crouch(Closer than Ever) and some emphasis on sneaking up behind the enemy.
Would be interesting indeed.

No functional benefits at all? What are you talking about? Unless you're one who keeps running around and only peak around corners of houses you will see a lot of improvement with the new movement features, I've been killed countless of times because you only have Prone, Crouch and stand, with the lean being only left completely and right completely, with Arma 3's implementation it's not as black and white as it was, now if you want to shoot a guy while being behind a wall but your only option in Arma 2 was to peak around a corner or go under but can't use that little hole that is a couple of inches below your weapon, now you can.
Or when you got shot because you have to stand to look above a little rockface you're behind, in Arma 3 you can adjust your position much more accurately.

I'm sorry, we aren't talking about the same thing. The new posture options are a great addition that are going to make urban combat more interesting than it's ever been and players will be forced to master them.
On the other hand, this "fuild character movement" that I see a lot of people talk about, is just an illusion created by refined gun animations and head bob.

I wanna learn the shit out of this game. All beginners I really urge you to play this game even if you have never played an ARMA before, mainly because it is a challenge in itself to master the controls first, and is very satisfying when what you do actually helps/works.
And I have finally completed one of the scenarios yay!

Illusion?
In ArmA 2, it feels like you're moving in tar when you're looking around. Here it feels really responsive. There is no illusion, it is an improvement.
There's something for everyone with modding.
And this is how PC gaming is supposed to be! Power to the player.
PvP finally works... and it will be intense as mapmakers are starting to roll out maps.
I imagine clan vs clan, etc. to be awesome!

If there weren't 3rd person view and double-zoom i'd buy it just to support their idea.
But sadly this is a complete gamebreaker for me.
Doesn't make the game bad or anything, it just makes it unplayable for me.
(And of course the ultra-low TTK doesn't even remotely fit my playstyle)
