Dead Space 4 canned following poor sales
As a hardcore can of Dead Space 1 and 2, I found what they did with 3 appalling. While I did have some "fun" in co-op play with a friend, it just wasn't Dead Space anymore... and if that's the route they planned on taking the 4th then I would just rather them kill the series.
http://www.vg247.com/2013/03/05/dead-space-4-canned-following-poor-sales-rumour/
Edit: It's just a rumor, so take it with a very large grain of salt... but I wouldn't put it past EA to already dump the next installment. It kinda makes sense since they already closed down the Visceral that made Army of Two (Before the game is even released, I should add), laid off a bunch from the Visceral location that made Dead Space and laid off a bunch of Danger Close developers as wel.

Not shocking, Visceral studios got completely restructured and thrown into the back-burner.
Oh well, another EA Cash Cow has been milked to death. The faster they run out of games to milk the better.

Well that's cute!
I'm picking DS3 up tomorrow... I'm sure EA can fashion a good GoW knock off with DS4 that will sell a few units just like MOH did... and port it to FB2 while they're at it.

EA buys studio creating great games.
EA imposes it's vision
Games stop selling
EA dumps studio.
What the fuck, have they no leaned by now. EA, publish the games, stop letting suits decide what's best. You wouldn't let me (an accountant) perform surgery on your kids, cos I know shit about medicine. So what makes you think you know what gamers want?

EA completely destroys their IPs and then shuts the IP down. If this is now happening with DS aswell I'm not surprised. EA is what we call locust in germany. Buying sth, milking it till collapse, leaving nothing but wasteland behind them.

I dont get it...why they close down the studio before the game release (AO2)...
But well seem to be every game that run FB2 arent selling well so far (beside their first game, BF3)Believing that life is not easy or fair made it easier to deal with reality.

I still don't get the business logic behind that.
* Studio makes games that people buy
* EA buys studio because of their success
* EA tells the studio to change their concept
* Sales drop
And this over and over and over and over again.
I would understand if they had a big plan, but EA should want to make money.
They don't need to ruin those studios because of fear of competition.
If they already own the studio they should do everything to make their work a success.
If EA could just once stop fucking up games of their studios, i'd be very thankful.
And they would also make more money that way ...

Thing is the people who run the business strategic dont understand gaming and all they do is analysis the sales figure and then figure out what elements people tend to interested and than force their gaming studio to fit in the strategic plan they created.
Thing is there wont have any 1-plan-fit-all in any of the business...
And I still think there wont have any big changes for EA in the future...
DS3 wont sell good is understandable tbh...Believing that life is not easy or fair made it easier to deal with reality.

You just can't win with EA...support them, and they will eventually take control of a games development, twist it, and ruin it then wonder why the game didn't sell, eventually shutting down the franchise/studio. Boycott them, they will still shut down studios or franchises.
Will someone please remove the management from EA? There was a time when EA produced good games and were a somewhat respectable company. Now, for the sake of the consumer and peoples jobs, i want them to crash and burn more than anything.
Disgraceful company.

03-05-2013, 01:12 PM #15I think the others have already said the most obvious stuff about this whole scenario here in this thread but this somehow caught my eye in the article. Since I haven't played and most likely won't this game, what does the weapon-specific ammo switched to generic ammo have to do with the micro-transactions? I don't know how the micro-transactions work in this game so I am a bit baffled why they would need to change to generic ammo type (thought the resources were used only to make the weapons?)According to the report, weapon-specific ammo was switched for generic ammo late in the day to accommodate the game's controversial micro-transactions, and developer Visceral were ordered to take the series into a more action-focused direction in order to emulate BioWare's Mass Effect franchise and broaden its appeal. In a world of grand illusions

It's obvious that the combat authenticity didn't resonate well with the customers. No, wait--

Origin, everything Dead Space up to 50% off, DS3 all platforms 41.99$.
3 weeks post launch and EA themselves are trying to muster anything they can from the franchise, because the other games releasing this month will basically kill off any remaining interest for DS3....Last edited by EcHo; 03-05-2013 at 04:36 PM.

Haha yeah, something along the line of:
"The game was solid, but the focus on horror elements did not resonate with consumers".
First of all, EA doesn't care about games, they only care about profit. They don't care whether a franchise dies or not, as long as they have profit.
My guess would be that the sales didn't drop. They just didn't increase as much as the development / PR cost did, and thus EA calls the franchise dead. For them there's no room for "improvement" in terms of profit. They want their franchises to become something like CoD where you get x-times the money back you spent on development and PR. If making the game more appealing to the crowd doesn't do it then it's game over for Dead Space. It will never become a game like CoD with the same profit/cost ratio and thus they want to focus on other games that still have this chance of becoming such a franchise.

EA must be in deep shit if they start sales on their AAA+ flagships a few weeks after release.
Tho codecow denied the rumor about DS (whom I'm willing to believe since he never shittalked afaik), the whole EA-story might get interesting now.

what did they expect? turned an unique, healthy horror/action hybrid franchise into a lame coop/scripted action generic fare. I feel sorry for the guys at visceral that probably worked hard for the game, but this is all a good sign since people are voting with their wallets. AFAIk Resident Evil 6 sales also did terribly, that's surely a slap in the face of EA/Capcom for being so desperate for COD money.

There is no real RE game after RE4. RE5 and 6 are complete different games based on the same story background and characters...And Capcom did make a statement saying that they want COD player to play RE6...
